Values of Q'anil Educational Project

We provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where our learners feel happy and confident to be authentically themselves. The adults engage, nurture, and respond to the learners’ needs and interests while allowing the learners to explore and stretch their individual abilities, capacities, and comfort levels.

We believe in the importance of building healthy social-emotional intelligence and relationship skills through real life applicable lessons on mindfulness, conscious communication (including active listening), and conflict resolution so that our learners lead and live with compassion and kindness for all living beings.

We provide a calm and peaceful learning environment conducive for curious and passionate learners to connect with their own interests, with their fellow learners, with their local community, and with real global issues.

We engage in our local community and respect the delicate balance between local and foreign cultures.

We promote a strong connection with, and respect for nature. We explore and create projects that contribute to the sustainability of our natural environment.

Creativity and expansive minds are promoted and cultivated with holistic themes (examples include holistic health and wellness, mayan cultural traditions, ocean/sea life), and diverse activities (examples include music, art, dance, sports, yoga, mindfulness, cultural and recreational excursions). These might be "extracurricular" activities in a traditional school setting, but at Q'anil we believe these are valuable experiences that contribute to the social-emotional, and intellectual well being of enterprising and balanced human beings.

Every voice and every perspective is valuable. We learn to effectively communicate our own thoughts and ideas, and we actively listen to the thoughts and ideas of others.

We mix the ages of our learners in some grades and in our enrichment activities in order to create an empathetic and collaborative environment between the various stages of growth.

We are a local, international, and multicultural community where everyone is welcome, free from judgement; the roots from where we have all originated come together in a beautiful, woven tapestry that illustrates countless stories of humanity that are all held as precious and are deeply valued.

Families are engaged and committed as an integral part of our school community, and contribute at least 10 hours of volunteer time during the school year in various ways including but not limited to: extracurricular activities, excursions/field trips, errands, collection of supplies, fundraising events, logistical and/or building support.
